2102

Headstands are every yoga learner’s nightmare. They are dreaded because they are deemed to be tough. The idea of standing upside down scares many. Yet, the following sequence of instructions will get you enjoying while mastering the nemesis.

Don’t Be Scared Of Falling Down

You may have a valid reason to be scared of falling when in an upside down pose. Finding a balance is tricky but possible if you try it on a wall while there is someone spotting you. Stop kicking and instead, lift yourself into the headstand. For others, things are easier when they begin with Headstand prep. In this pose, your body balances on your head without your feet getting off the ground.

Make Your Base Stable

One of the reasons why we are unable to balance on our heads is because or bases are unstable. Strength and stability are necessary since the rest of the body needs it for support. Whether you want to try out the Tripod or the Bound Headstand, stability is vital. For the Bound Headstand you have to make sure that for starters, the heels’ palms are firmly rooted at the back of your head. The elbows on the other should be spaced out of the ears. On the other hand, the elbows should be kept at 90 degrees in the Tripod stand. With such stability on the ground, you will find the Headstands much easier to execute.

Make Your Upper Body Strong

One strong reason why many people are not able to achieve the desired Headstand is because the upper body becomes weak. A strong and stable base is dependent on the toned biceps shoulders, triceps and the various muscles found in the upper body.Through regular push ups and sculpting your upper body, you will be able to achieve the desired strength of the upper body.

Strengthen The Core

You might have a strong base and upper body, but as long as the core is weak, you will find it difficult to find balance. Do not jump to the Headstand; do it slowly to maintain your momentum. A strong core will depend on how you execute the Headstand. The feet should be on the floor while the legs are kept straight. It is also advisable to fold your feet to your chest, assuming a Tuck pose.

Finally, find your alignment. There should be a balance between the torso, hips and shoulders.
