4 Restorative Yoga Poses with Props

4803

Restorative yoga poses are a wonderful way to end any yoga practice. They’re calming, relaxing, and a pleasant peaceful time in what can be a very busy day. Although a lot of restorative yoga poses rely on props to help your body really relax, there are some that don’t and therefore can be done anywhere and at anytime. Take note of these and you’ll never panic when you don’t have a prop handy.

1. Reclining Bound Angle Pose

In this pose you will first sit straight with feet pressed together. Lean your torso back, using your hands and arms to support yourself until you are flat on the floor. Allow your knees to rest comfortably as your hips and groin open up. Don’t force them to the floor – they will relax naturally as your body does. Your hands will be placed by your body, palms up.

2. Corpse Pose

Lay down, using your arms and hands to help your torso to the floor. Your hands will be palm up, out from the body, with your legs slightly spread. Relax your neck and spine, allowing your body to sink into the floor. Make sure that your shoulder blades are spread and resting gently on the floor.

3. Child’s Pose

Begin by kneeling on the floor with knees wide while you sit on your heels. Lean forward through your knees as you exhale, and stretch your arms out over your head. Your forehead will rest gently on the floor as will your hands. No muscles should be engaged as you relax into this pose.

4. Legs Up On The Wall Pose

Sitting sideways by a wall, turn and lift your legs straight up to rest against it. They will be active as you hold them vertically. Your arms will rest out from your body, hands up. Make sure that you’re not pressing your chin into your chest. With a relaxed neck and head you won’t be uncomfortable.

Any of these poses are a wonderful way to end yoga practice or just to find some quiet time during the day. Begin each pose by holding it for a minute, but try to progress to holding them for 5-10 minutes. You’ll be amazed at how relaxed you feel and how your body will stretch, releasing tension that you didn’t even know you were carrying. These restorative yoga poses will help bring peace into your life and your body and you will love incorporating them into your practice!
