3 Techniques for Coping with a Broken Heart

1967

Everyone goes through it at some point in his or her life. There is no way to avoid it and the ones who say they haven’t experienced it are either not telling the truth or were never brave enough to face their own feelings. Coping with a broken heart is never easy. Either if you are after your first love confession, which didn’t go as planned, or if you were left heartbroken after your relationship came to an end, what is for sure is that you feel both disappointed and in pain. Therefore, we thought it might be useful to put together a few advice that can help you to cope with the situation.

1. Let it Go, or Fight for It?

The first and most important question is whether you should give up or not. It is easy to get the misconception that there is still a chance for getting things right even after the other person said no. First of all, try to reevaluate your situation and make a final decision, to help you cope with the situation. In case you still see a bit of hope (which is usually the case), try to talk to the one who left you heartbroken to get a straightforward answer. Making things clear is the first step in your recovery.

2. Don’t Blame Yourself

This is one of the hardest things to deal with. When we are heartbroken we can easily blame ourselves. “I was not good enough”, “Only if I would’ve done something differently” and so on. Try to avoid these thoughts and right before you feel like your going down again on that street, focus on something else. In the beginning, it might be useful to keep your calendar busy and spend more time with others than with your own thought.

3. Visualize Your Future and Take Your Time

You might be feeling that you still need him/her in your life and you cannot go one without your beloved one. The thing is, that we’ve all been through this in our life and you can rest assured, there are plenty of fun things still waiting for you out there! It might sound unbelievable right now, but if you try focusing on your own passion, hobbies, and interests, it might be easier for you to cope with the situation. Try having positive thoughts about the future, which can reencourage you in the long run. The healing process takes time, so don’t try to rush things but most importantly, don’t forget, that you will get trough this and all those gray colors will be vivid again!
