4 Yoga Poses For Posture

When it comes to yoga poses for posture, there are a few that come to mind.

1. Downward Dog

One of the first ones that comes to mind is the downward dog. The downward dog is among the most signature and popular of yoga moves because it not only allows the yogi to really engage their mind and body in one motion, but it also comes with a whole host of other benefits that aren’t readily available in many other yoga poses. This pose is very popular with athletes and other individuals that would be interested in maximizing their flexibility for the entire duration of their pre-workout yoga routine. To perform the pose, simply go on all fours in a plank position, roll your butt back and into the air until the back and legs are locked straight. You should feel this in your lower back and calves.

2. Sun Salutations

When it comes to shoulder health, sun salutations are some of the best for engaging the core and really emphasizing forward rotation of the shoulders. This is critical because it really allows the entire upper-girdle of the body to be locked and allowed to stretch and feel. This is absolutely critical for posture, because too often, people spend all day with their shoulders in a fixed position. To perform this pose, reach arms out wide and reach for the sky above your head, bring hands to the chest when finished.

3. Happy Baby

The happy baby pose sounds a bit silly, but it’s fantastic for posture, especially the lower back. Lean on your back, stick your legs with knees bent towards the sky, reach for your heels and maintain this position. You should almost feel as if you’re creating an invisible bubble around yourself, with the feet forming the top of this “bubble.”

4. King Arthur’s Pose

This pose sounds really cool, but it’s a lot less fun than it sounds. This one will help stretch and loosen up your hip flexors, one of the hardest muscle groups to really hit with proper stretching. Assume a kneeling position. With one leg flat, grab the foot on his leg and pull towards your butt. You will then feel an intense stretch in your hip, lean forward on the kneeling leg to increase the stretch. It will burn badly, but as with any yoga pose, the rewards are well worth it.

Try these poses and in due time, you’ll feel a tremendous difference with these yoga poses for posture.
